Overview
Lombok experienced a dark incident that caused many infrastructures to be damaged and needed significant repair. A financial institution, "Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil'' invited Shirvano to volunteer and revive Lombok's economy by rebuilding a spiritual area, namely the mosque. There are three different mosque areas that Shirvano designed. There are Jeruk Manis, Bangle, and also Narmada.
Concept
All of these mosques have a minimalist and earthquake-resistant concept. However, each mosque has its uniqueness. In the Jeruk Manis area, almost the entire wall is designed using a roaster so that air circulation can quickly enter and exit. Then the Bangle area, its elongated land, and the sloping direction of the Qibla make the design for this area much more unique. The mosque is designed with a zigzag shape to equalize the exposure of the Qibla and maximize the space. Finally, in the Narmada area, of the three designs, Narmada has a more stand-out and striking design than the others, which is to have a triangular shape on each side. The zone is divided into two: the prayer zone and the ablution. The division of these zones is based on the function of each zone and avoids contamination of impurities in the ablution area.
Challenge
The design of the construction of this mosque experienced several obstacles, including the location being far away, so communication between the designer and the field executor became less intense. In addition, a limited budget also makes this design have to save all costs. The ability of local workers is also a hindrance because local workers need to be used to doing jobs with high accuracy.
Value
This waqaf design is expected to present a more creative alternative in making a mosque so that the mosque proposed can look different from usual. In addition, this mosque is designed with more reinforced structural aspects to achieve earthquake standards.
